Mama Kollo is the second single off Max le Daron’s first full length album. It’s the result of a jam in the studio in Accra with his long time friend and kologo music flag bearer Stevo Atambire. Starting from an afro-house drum loop programmed by Max, they built the track together with Stevo’s kologo riffs and his griot art of telling picturesque stories. In this case, the story of the daily life of a young Ghanaian hustling in the city to send money to his parent’s village.

Stevo sings in his native frafra as well as pidgin, as in the chorus: “Stay with me we’ll fight small small / Don’t kill me and make mama kollo” - meaning in context: as we spend time together, we may get into arguments, but let’s keep cool, the person you’re mad at is likely to be the bread maker for others. If you kill that person, you’ll drive their mom crazy.
